Rufous Hummingbird in Delaware County

Rufous Hummingbird by Peter EmmettMatt Erickson has had a Rufous Hummingbird coming to a feeder in southern Delware County since Thanksgiving Day. (Now that was a nice Thanksgiving surprise!) On Sunday, November 25, Allen Chartier, noted hummingbird expert from Michigan, came by to band this bird. Peter Emmett was on hand to take photographs; you can see the results here.

EcoWeekend Receives Grant from National Audubon

Looking For BirdsColumbus Audubon is pleased to announce that EcoWeekend has been awarded a $500 grant from the Collaborative Funding Program of the National Audubon Society. The grant will support a special and entertaining program by Mark Berman, The Bugman, for this spring's EcoWeekend, which runs from May 3 - 5.

Audubon Notes for BP Settlement

brown pelican gary stolz usfwsAudubon President David Yarnold has provided some additional information about the recent BP settlement for the Deepwater Horizon blowout last year. 

You're probably aware that BP reached an historic settlement with the federal government last week that will dedicate most of $4B to conservation. Of that, fully $1.2B will go to coastal Louisiana. I have been getting many questions about the settlement and wanted to address some of them for you.
