Our friend Sarah Dalton, Naturalist at Blendon Woods Metro Park, has contributed a tongue-in-cheek description of the birding madness that afflicts some of us, especially at this time of year.  At least we think it's meant to be humorous, although some non-birding relatives seemed to be nodding knowingly as they read it....  Enjoy!

Nest boxes that feature Ralph Windsor's signature scrawled on the bottom can be found all over central Ohio.

The 87-year-old Windsor, who lives at Friendship Village of Dublin, has been building nest boxes for birds for years. Nine boxes recently were installed in Coffman Park to honor his work, establishing a new Eastern bluebird trail.

"He and I have worked together on bluebird conservation for 20 or 25 years," said Darlene Sillick, former president of Columbus Audubon and board member for the Ohio Wildlife Center.

Michael Packer and Darlene Sillick led a trip April 10 - 11 to the Prairie Ridge Interpretive Site in Illinois for a rare, up-close look at the courtship of the endangered Greater Prairie Chicken.  The trip was a unique opportunity to observe courtship displays at the lek where the male birds strut, display, and make fascinating noises.
